How to Steam Broccoli in Microwave

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch broccoli

Instructions

  • Cut broccoli crowns off of the large stems and then cut them into bite-sized florets. Rinse them thoroughly to remove any visible dirt or debris.
  • Add broccoli florets to a large, microwave-safe bowl along with 3-4 tablespoons of water.
  • Cover the bowl with a large plate and microwave for 1 ½ - 2 minutes on high power.
  • You’ll know the broccoli is done when it turns bright green and can be easily pierced with a fork. Serve immediately.

Meal Prep and Storage

  • To Prep-Ahead: You can prepare the broccoli by cutting it into pieces the day before.
  • To Store: Save leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.
  • To Freeze: It is best to freeze broccoli in a single layer on a baking sheet for a couple of hours. Then, transfer the veggies to a freezer-safe bag and keep for up to 6 to 8 months.
  • To Reheat: Place the broccoli back in a microwave safe bowl and warm it up in 30 second intervals.
