I have been anxiously waiting to tell you all about this watermelon cocktail and how it was created!!
The invention of this watermelon tequila fizz took place on July 4th, 2017.
Cohl and I were at my mom’s river property with our friends Matt & Taylor. We only brought a few snacks and drinks to enjoy while basking in the sun, and one of these snacks was a beautifully ripe watermelon.
Taylor told us that she has broken open many spaghetti squash by dropping them onto the ground in a trash bag. This squash-in-a-bag trick would result in a perfectly cracked-open spaghetti squash!
The boys decided to take this idea a step further and instead of dropping our watermelon onto the ground they wanted to throw it onto the ground… from the top of a tree!!
My phone was too far away for my reconstructed ACL knee to get to, otherwise I would have a few pictures for proof of this hilarious insanity.
Matt climbed up to the first branch of a tree with a little instruction from Cohl on the ground. The three of us waited anxiously to see what would happen.
Matt did not toss the watermelon down. Oh no… that would be too simple. Matt wound up the watermelon, bundled up quite loosely in a grocery bag, and then hurled it at the ground from a good 15 feet up. You can only imagine what happened to that already almost-too-ripe watermelon.
Instead of the clean, neat wedges we were imagining, the grocery bag was full of watermelon mush. What were we going to do with all of this juicy watermelon?!… Make a watermelon cocktail with the tequila and champagne we brought!
Since we did not have any cups or spoons with us, Cohl and Matt improvised and used a pocket knife and a plastic water bottle with the top cut off to mix up their watermelon cocktail.
They added a good bit of watermelon mush, a splash or two of tequila, and then topped it off with the sparkling wine we brought.
The boys’ watermelon cocktail was absolutely delicious!!
In the directions below I show you how to make four individual 10-12 ounce glasses of these watermelon cocktails.
